Global Gifts: About Us

Global Gifts is a non-profit business committed to creating sustainable economic opportunities and safe and equitable working conditions for disadvantaged artisans and farmers around the world. From jewelry and home goods to toys and food items, our stores are filled with handmade, one-of-a-kind items from nearly 40 different countries.

But that’s not the best part... Global Gifts' products are fair trade so you can be confident that your purchases have been produced ethically and artisans have been paid a fair wage. We pay our artisans upfront for our orders, and we only work with vendors and groups who take great care of their artisans.

We also mentioned we're a non-profit business - in fact, we're 501c3 certified! We rely on our volunteers, donors, and customers like YOU to help us support our artisan groups with continued orders. Our volunteers support our small team of staff in keeping our stores open, helping with special events, fundraising, customer service, and spreading the word about fair trade.

Incorporated in Indiana since 1988, Global Gifts is a nonprofit business committed to creating sustainable economic opportunities and safe and equitable working conditions for disadvantaged artisans and farmers around the world by:

• Providing vital fair income and employment for people of limited opportunity;
• Marketing ethically produced and ethically obtained handmade products;
• Respecting cultural identity and educating the public about the cultures and traditions associated with items we sell; and
• Helping consumers spend their shopping dollars in ways that support marginalized communities and environmental sustainability through the principles of Fair Trade.

What is Fair Trade?

Fair Trade is a movement to reduce poverty, create safe and equitable working conditions, and provide fair wages to disadvantaged producers around the world. Unlike traditional production and labor models, fair trade is based on dialogue, transparency, and respect between the people who create products and those who purchase and distribute them.

Local Impact Initiatives

The Global Gifts Local Impact Initiatives Committee is dedicated to working with partner organizations within Marion and Monroe Counties, Indiana and Franklin County, Ohio, to develop Local Fair Trade Initiatives. These initiatives will develop economic opportunities which create and market handmade goods that are developed in line with Fair Trade Principles.
